During my years of designing buildings and building software, one thing became increasingly obvious: the biggest business decisions in residential development are made during design. Yet the design process itself rarely builds on what came before.
Most residential projects begin with proven planning patterns that encode years of architectural knowledge, local regulations, cost-benefits and cultural preferences. But every site is unique: different regulations, different access requirements, different product mixes. Weeks are spent adapting compliant designs to individual sites and clients, even when most of the underlying logic hasn't actually changed.

Founder story
Amritha is a graduate of the National Institute of Technology Calicut and the Architectural Association, London. When she was house hunting in her home city of Bangalore, she was struck by the abysmal quality of much of the housing stock: rooms stacked one after the other with little consideration for daylight or ventilation, staircases barely wide enough for one person, balconies converted into rooms, and much worse.
As an architect, she was appalled. She decided to do something about it.
Habitable was founded on the belief that everyone deserves a good place to live — whether they are living in their own home, renting out a builder-floor unit, or living in a large gated community.
Amritha brings years of experience across residential developers and architecture practices. Her work spans Total Environment, Mahindra, Century, Adani, Ambuja, Morphogenesis and CnT Architects. She has spent the last eight years building cloud-based BIM tools for architects. She brings to Habitable a combination of experience designing homes, understanding the needs of developers, and building software for complex design workflows.
